The Social Acceptance Network

The essay is a Film Analysis Paper… the movie I am focusing on is The Social Network (2001) as well as The Godfather (1972)

This is the proposal I submitted for this essay:

I want to analyze the film, “The Social Network” and look at it from a thematic point of view.
I will focus mainly on the theme of “Societies need to be accepted” or “humankind’s need to feel accepted”. I will however include the idea of “power and greed” and how it ties with wanting to be accepted. (Power means attention and fame)
I will further look at symbolism, such as the creation of Facebook itself and how the whole system links with the idea of wanting to be accepted (friend request’s, likes, etc.) as well as the juxtaposition of Jesse Eisnberg’s character creating a social media to create a world where he can be more connected and more accepted, however in the end finds that this creation caused him to be even more lonely. This will tie into ideas about our world today and how perhaps the growth of Facebook and social media has not only left Jesse Eisnberg’s character feeling alone, but our general population today feeling more alone after these creations. I will include more symbolic gestures to loneliness and wanting to be accepted through film style, shots and angles etc. This will also include mise-en-scene.
Finally, I will make a small comparison to The Godfather and how similarly both these movies intertwine with one another. I also want to focus on analyzing the relationship between power and agency as well.
